Cement manufacturing is an energy and resource intensive process. We use coal as a primary fuel and electricity powered through the grid. We aim to increase the utilisation of alternative, green and clean sources of energy. Thus, we have taken various targets and commitments.

Targets and Commitments:

Initiatives

Commitment

Current Status (FY 26)

RE100
A global initiative bringing together the world’s most influential businesses driving the transition to 100% renewable electricity.
100% of electricity from renewable energy by 2050 (with intermediate steps like 60% by 2030 and 90% by 2040) Renewable Energy (solar power) portfolio is currently at 9 %
EP100
A group of 125 energy-smart companies committed to using energy more productively, to lower greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate a clean economy.
Double energy productivity by 2037-38 considering the baseline year 2013-14 We have already met our target under EP100, and thus we closed our EP membership in FY 23-24
EV100
A global initiative bringing together forward looking companies committed to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles (EVs).
100 % of vehicles up to 3.5t to be EV 50% of vehicles between 3.5t and 7.5t to be EV. Workplace and/or customer charging in all feasible locations by 2030 Over 75% of our passenger vehicle fleet comprises of Evs
UN Energy Compact To increase the renewable energy, share in by 30% by 2030
Double the energy productivity of JSW Cement’s operations by 2030
30% TSR by 2030
RE-9 %
EP-already achieved
TSR is 13%

As we are gearing up to achieve the target, the requirement of energy will increase drastically and with our commitment for a sustainable growth, it becomes necessary to decrease our coal dependency and increase usage of green energy and alternate fuels as well as implementing waste heat recovery systems across all clinker locations. The benefits of these measures will progressively become evident in the upcoming years.

  • Using alternate fuel: We are advancing our decarbonisation strategy by targeting an increased thermal substitution rate (TSR) of 30% and 60% green and clean power by the year 2030, driven by investments in solar power and other renewable energy sources. While our thermal substitution rate has gone down to 13% from last year owing to a few operational challenges at sites, we are upgrading our AFR systems to enhance the TSR percentage in coming years. Our target is to reach 30% by 2030. Our energy sources encompass industrial waste, including pharmaceutical hazardous waste, plastic waste and carbon black.

  • Green and Clean Energy: We are progressively increasing our adoption of clean and green power by utilising electricity generated through Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS) and renewable energy accessed through PPAs. This is in conjunction with working towards our target of 60% green and clean energy in 2030. In FY2025-26, approximately 24% of our power came from clean sources.

    • We have installed 12.29 MW WHRS at Nandyal and 8.9 MW at Shiva. The WHRS at Shiva Cement, meets almost 70% of its energy needs.

    • We currently have secured green power through 20.3 MW solar plant at the Nandyal unit, 11 MW plant at Vijayanagar and 3.5 MW at our Salboni unit, which are helping us decarbonise our carbon footprint.

  • Energy efficiency: We take periodic upgrades and initiatives to achieve better energy efficiency in our processes. This helps further in decarbonisation.
